JohnFJunior is an artist with a direct connection to romantic painting and landscape, but throughout his career there are many more references that populate his work. For a long time he has defined himself as a painter who uses objects in his compositions, but drawing has always manifested itself as a fundamental tool within his abstract assemblages and material works that he has always defended as expanded painting and not as sculpture.
Currently he moves to drawing and figuration as a way to broaden horizons, going from the physical to the ethereal.
The Hampstead neighborhood appears in his iconography through John Constable’s painting when he was an art student. Later, on his visits to London, JohnFJunior walks around the area and begins to create a stage where he represents indecipherable allegories between tragedy and comedy.The drawings are inhabited by ghosts and presences that sometimes emerge from the British Museum and others from mass culture. The symbolism and a subtle darkness surrounds the represented scenes. What is surrealism today? the spectator could ask, after the readings adopted by our culture of contemporary authors such as David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick or Terry Jones.
Liquid Gold Studios will host JohnFJunior’s drawings from January 17th to 22nd. The exhibition is open everyday from 1.00 to 6.30 p.m. Saturday 21st from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm Any other time you’ll be welcome under appointment.
On January 19th there will be an opening from 6:30 p.m to 8.30 p.m.
Juan Fuster / JohnFJunior is a Spanish artist based in Alicante. He studied art in Boston Massachusetts at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts and has developed his career in the art sector both as a visual artist holding exhibitions of his personal work and as a cultural manager in art centers and independent residency projects.
